Joseph J. Cravatta

April 12, 1916 ~ September 5, 2017 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Joseph J. Cravatta, 101, of Streator, passed away at 6:18 a.m. Tuesday September 5, 2017 at Heritage Health in Streator.
Joe was born April 12, 1916 in Arma, Kansas, he was the son of Gaetano and Anna (Columbo) Cravatta, he married Mary DeGrado on October 11, 1936, she passed away July 7, 1994.
At Joe’s request, their will be no services.  He wanted to be remembered as he lived, active, healthy and happy!!  His later years were centered around his family.  The Elias Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
He is survived by his sons Gaetano “Tony” (Gayle) Cravatta, Jerome “Jerry” (Sandy) Cravatta, grandchildren Jerome, Joe, Toni Anne, Kim, Guy and Greg, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived a sister, Lou Laue and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a brother and 3 sisters.
He attended Streator Township High School.  On July 4, 1934 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) until 1935.  His duties were to sign Construction and Rib Details.  He then entered the Infantry Replacement Training Center, Army Ground Forces at Camp Hood, Texas in 1945.  He was a Anti Tank Gun Crewman.  He owned and operated Club Indian Acres from 1950 - 1972.  He was a former member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Streator.
