Gene M. Gehrts

Gene M. Gehrts, 86, of Streator, passed away Tuesday December 19, 2017 at Manor Court in Peru.
Funeral services for Gene Gehrts will be at 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 22, 2017 at Park Presbyterian Church in Streator, burial will follow the service in Riverview Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9 - 10 a.m. Friday at the church. The Elias Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Born March 14, 1931 in Hanover, IL, he was the son of Fred and Helen (Cook) Gehrts, he married Jean King on May 11, 1954 in Carthage, IL.
He is survived by his grandchildren Brad Spelich of Ottawa, Laura (Rick) Human of Chicago, son-in-law Gordon (Laura) Spelich of Richfield, OH, siblings Bob (JoAnn) Gehrts of Cincinnati, OH, Nathan (Bridgett) Gehrts of Arlington, TX, Patricia (Don) Davis of Newark, Delaware, Thomas (Elaine) Grimes of Champaign, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jean, daughter Glenna Spelich and brother Bernard “Bernie” Gehrts.
Gene worked at Owens Illinois Glass for over 45 years and was also a car salesman at Hill Chevrolet in Streator, he was a member of Park Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities as both an Elder, and Deacon, property committee for several years, attended both the Wednesday and Saturday morning prayer groups. He was also President of the senior bowling league at Bowl Mor Lanes, he loved cars and collecting guitars.
Memorials may be directed to the Park Presbyterian Church or the donor’s choice.
