Richard Harold. “Dick” Mitchell, 85, of rural Streator, passed away Friday November 16, 2018 at his home.
A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Nov. 24, 2018 at the Elias Funeral Home. The Rev. Anne Ferguson of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Full military rites will be provided after the service at the funeral home by members of the American Legion Post #217 and Veterans of Foreign War Post #1492. Burial will be held at a later date in Riverview Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Elias Funeral Home.
Born December 28, 1932 in Streator, he was the son of Harold and Eunice (Davidson) Mitchell, he married Marilyn Phyllis Pyle on June 30, 1952.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of rural Streator, children Deborah (Mark) Neubauer of Streator, Paula (John) Bennett of Scottsdale AZ, Linda (Dennis) Crowley of Cary, IL, Richard (Theresa) Mitchell of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by grandchildren John (Carrie) Green, Jeremy (Amy) Green, Brian Bennett, Conner Crowley, Ryane (Ryan) Doyle, Collin Crowley, Ronald Mitchell and James Mitchell, also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren.
He attended local grade schools and graduated from Streator Township High School, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea for 18 months. He worked at NI Gas for over 37 years.
Dick was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Leslie G. Wood’s American Legion Post #217 and Veteran of Foreign War Post #1492.
