John A. Mateer

John A. Mateer, 75, of Streator, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in Streator.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday September 16, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Leonore, IL.  Rev. Fr. Ray Guthrie will officiate, burial will follow in St’s Peter and Paul Cemetery in Leonore, IL, serving as pallbearers will be Joe Thomas, Bob Thomas, Ken Mateer, Devin Mateer, Colton Beard and Kaitlin Thomas.  A visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Saturday at the Elias Funeral Home.
John was born July 5, 1942 in Streator, IL, he was the son of Michael and Cleo (Hinderer) Mateer, he married Patricia J. Sabino on May 14, 1966, she passed away January 22, 2011.
He is survived by his children Anthony Scott (Lori) Mateer of Streator, Thomas Allen (Amanda) Mateer of Towanda, IL, Amy Susanne (Robert) Thomas of Streator, grandchildren Ashley Mateer, Joseph Thomas, Anthony Mateer Jr., Kaitlin Thomas, Hayden Mateer, Cassidy Thomas and Mia Mateer.  He is also survived by a brother Michael (Edna) Mateer of TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat and a daughter Melissa Jean Mateer in infancy.
John attended local grade schools, graduated from Streator Township High School in 1960 then attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was a glass cutter at Libby Owens Ford for over 22 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, the Knighs of Columbus where he served in the 3rd degree and Sandy Ford Sportsman Club.
